ANKARA, Thursday, May 7, 2026 (WNP): Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Thursday said Türkiye and Algeria would continue advancing their friendship and strategic cooperation across all sectors with a “win-win approach.”

In a statement following talks in Ankara with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Erdoğan said he was delighted to host the Algerian leader and his delegation during the first meeting of the Türkiye-Algeria Strategic Cooperation Council.

The Turkish president said both sides had taken important decisions aimed at further strengthening bilateral brotherhood and cooperation.

He noted that Türkiye and Algeria were intensifying efforts to achieve the bilateral trade target of $10 billion set in 2023.

Erdoğan said more than 1,600 Turkish companies operating in Algeria were contributing significantly to projects and investments worth $8 billion across sectors including industry, mining, agriculture, construction, pharmaceuticals, and infrastructure.

“Inshallah, in the coming period, by working together, we will add new ones to our mutual investments and private sector collaborations,” he said.

Highlighting cooperation in the energy sector, Erdoğan said Türkiye and Algeria were steadily deepening long-term collaboration on energy supply security, particularly in the field of natural gas.

He also expressed Türkiye’s readiness to contribute to Algeria’s agricultural development and food security efforts, describing food security as one of the most critical global issues of the present time.

The Turkish president said expanding cooperation in the defence industry would contribute positively to the security and stability of both countries and the wider region.

Referring to regional developments, Erdoğan said Türkiye and Algeria shared a common position on ending the cycle of violence threatening peace and security in the region.

He reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to further strengthening ties with Algeria in all fields through mutual cooperation and shared interests.
