PM Shehbaz hails successful conclusion of first high-level Islamabad MoU talks, reaffirms Pakistan’s commitment to peace diplomacy

BÜRGENSTOCK, Monday, June 22, 2026 (WNP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday welcomed the successful conclusion of the first High-Level Committee meeting held under the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (Islamabad MoU), describing it as a significant milestone in advancing dialogue between the United States and Iran and reinforcing Pakistan’s role as a sincere advocate of regional and global peace.

In a statement issued following the conclusion of the Pakistan-hosted talks in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, the prime minister said the discussions were held in a positive, constructive and forward-looking atmosphere, resulting in encouraging progress toward the implementation of the landmark peace agreement.

“Alhamdulillah, the First High-Level Committee Meeting under the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding has concluded successfully in Bürgenstock, Switzerland,” the prime minister said.

He announced that the meeting had produced several important outcomes, including agreement on a roadmap aimed at reaching a comprehensive final agreement within the next 60 days, the establishment of a High-Level Committee to provide political oversight of the process, and the commencement of further technical-level negotiations.

Prime Minister Shehbaz commended the leadership of both the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran for demonstrating continued commitment to constructive engagement and dialogue, saying their statesmanship had created fresh momentum toward achieving a peaceful and lasting settlement.

He also expressed appreciation to all brotherly and friendly countries that had extended valuable support throughout the diplomatic process.

The prime minister paid special tribute to the State of Qatar, acknowledging its pivotal contribution in creating the conditions necessary for the negotiations to move forward successfully.

“I would like to express my gratitude to our brotherly country Qatar for its critical support in creating the conditions necessary for these negotiations to move forward,” he said.

Prime Minister Shehbaz also thanked the Government of Switzerland for facilitating and hosting the historic talks in Bürgenstock.

Paying tribute to Pakistan’s military leadership, the prime minister offered special appreciation to Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for his steadfast commitment to the peace process.

“I would like to pay special tribute to Field Marshal Asim Munir, whose untiring efforts made these talks a success. His dedication, commitment and perseverance are indeed commendable. Without his efforts, there would have been no progress,” the prime minister said.

He also acknowledged the diplomatic efforts of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and the Foreign Office team for their sustained engagement throughout the negotiations.

The prime minister further praised Interior Minister Senator Mohsin Naqvi for his significant contribution to ensuring the successful conduct of the talks.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to peaceful conflict resolution through dialogue and diplomacy, Prime Minister Shehbaz said the country would continue to play an honest, constructive and sincere role in supporting initiatives aimed at promoting regional stability and international peace.

“Pakistan will continue to play its honest and sincere role in advancing dialogue and diplomacy towards a peaceful and lasting resolution,” he concluded.
