BÜRGENSTOCK, Sunday, June 21, 2026 (WNP): Switzerland’s Vice President and Foreign Minister, Ignazio Cassis, on Sunday praised Pakistan’s successful mediation efforts that culminated in the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (Islamabad MoU) between the United States and Iran, while expressing Switzerland’s readiness to support the agreement’s implementation process.

The Swiss foreign minister called on Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on the sidelines of the ongoing high-level technical talks between the United States and Iran in Bürgenstock, Switzerland.

During the meeting, Cassis commended Pakistan’s constructive diplomatic role in facilitating negotiations that led to the landmark Islamabad MoU and reaffirmed Switzerland’s willingness to contribute to the follow-up process aimed at ensuring the successful implementation of the agreement.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked the Swiss government for its continued support and constructive engagement, saying the effective implementation of the Islamabad MoU would contribute significantly to regional peace, international stability and global economic prosperity.

“We agreed that the successful implementation of the Islamabad MoU will contribute to regional peace, stability and global economic prosperity,” the prime minister said following the meeting.

The two leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening Pakistan-Switzerland relations and expanding cooperation across a wide range of mutually beneficial sectors.

Prime Minister Shehbaz appreciated Switzerland’s longstanding investment in Pakistan and expressed the hope that Swiss companies would further expand their presence in the country’s growing economy.

He also offered Pakistan’s assistance in meeting Switzerland’s increasing demand for highly skilled information technology and cybersecurity professionals, highlighting Pakistan’s expanding pool of qualified experts in these fields.

The meeting also reviewed opportunities to enhance bilateral cooperation in the pharmaceutical industry, tourism, climate change mitigation and disaster risk reduction.

Prime Minister Shehbaz emphasized that stronger economic and technological partnerships would further deepen the longstanding friendship between the two countries while creating new opportunities for trade, investment and innovation.

Extending an invitation to the Swiss vice president, the prime minister invited Ignazio Cassis to visit Pakistan at mutually convenient dates to further advance bilateral cooperation.

“It was a pleasure to meet His Excellency Ignazio Cassis, Vice President and Foreign Minister of Switzerland, on the sidelines of the ongoing technical talks following the Islamabad MoU in Bürgenstock,” Prime Minister Shehbaz said.

The meeting took place alongside the Pakistan-hosted technical-level talks between the United States and Iran, being held under the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, which seeks to advance the implementation of the landmark agreement through continued diplomatic engagement and confidence-building measures.
