Peshawar Corps clinches 50th COAS Polo & Tent Pegging Championship as army chief attends closing ceremony

RAWALPINDI/Lahore, Tuesday, December 30, 2025 (WNP): The 50th Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Polo and Tent Pegging Championship 2025 concluded on Tuesday with a colourful closing ceremony at the historic Jinnah Polo Fields in Lahore, highlighting the Pakistan Army’s enduring sporting traditions and commitment to excellence.

Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, Chief of the Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, attended the ceremony as chief guest. Minister of Interior, the Chief Secretary Punjab, senior civil and military officials, and a large number of spectators were also present. Upon his arrival, the army chief was received by the Corps Commander Lahore and the Chairman of the Pakistan Polo Federation.

Eight teams from across the Army formations competed in the championship, which showcased high standards of horsemanship, discipline and teamwork. Peshawar Corps emerged as champions, while Gujranwala Corps secured the runners-up position after closely contested matches.

Addressing the gathering, the army chief lauded the participants for their professionalism and sportsmanship, noting that polo and tent pegging reflect the Army’s rich cavalry heritage and emphasis on physical fitness, courage and precision.

During the closing ceremony, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir distributed trophies and prizes among the winning and participating teams, commending their dedication and competitive spirit.

The annual championship serves as a platform to promote traditional equestrian sports while reinforcing the values of discipline, camaraderie and excellence that remain central to the Pakistan Army’s ethos.
