ISLAMABAD, Thursday, June 25, 2026 (WNP): Pakistan and Iran on Thursday agreed to fully operationalize the Pakistan-Iran Joint Transport Committee and undertake coordinated measures to address transport and logistics issues on a priority basis, in a move aimed at enhancing bilateral trade, cross-border connectivity and regional economic integration.
The understanding was reached during a high-level meeting between Iran’s Minister of Roads, Urban Development and Transport, Farzaneh Sadegh, and a Pakistani delegation led by Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan during the Iranian minister’s visit to Islamabad.
The meeting focused on expanding regional connectivity, strengthening transport infrastructure and promoting bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
The Pakistani delegation also included Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi, Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, and Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry.
Welcoming the Iranian delegation, Abdul Aleem Khan expressed satisfaction over the restoration of peace in the region and commended the resilience and determination demonstrated by the Iranian people during recent challenges.
He emphasized that Pakistan and Iran were committed to further strengthening road and rail connectivity, describing efficient land transport links as a key driver for expanding trade, facilitating transit and unlocking the economic potential of both neighbouring countries.
The two sides held detailed discussions on a range of proposals aimed at improving transport infrastructure, customs procedures and logistics operations, and agreed to fully activate the Pakistan-Iran Joint Transport Committee to ensure closer institutional coordination.
Abdul Aleem Khan assured the Iranian delegation that Pakistan would address all transport-related issues between the two countries on a priority basis to facilitate smoother movement of goods and commercial traffic.
Iranian Minister Farzaneh Sadegh expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s positive and constructive diplomatic role in helping reduce regional tensions and supporting efforts that paved the way for a peace agreement.
She said Iran highly valued the solidarity and cooperation extended by Pakistan, describing the relationship between the two countries as one rooted in brotherhood, mutual trust and shared regional interests.
The Iranian minister also highlighted issues related to the clearance of trucks and cargo containers at border crossings, stressing the need for practical solutions to improve the efficiency of cross-border trade.
Senior officials from both countries attended the meeting, which concluded with an agreement to undertake joint measures for the early resolution of all outstanding transport and logistics issues along the Pakistan-Iran border.
The discussions reaffirmed the shared commitment of Islamabad and Tehran to strengthening regional connectivity, facilitating trade, improving transport infrastructure and expanding economic cooperation for the mutual benefit of both countries.
