RIYADH, Wednesday, April 8, 2026 (WNP): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Saudi Arabia on Wednesday welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran, expressing hope that the development would pave the way for lasting peace and stability in the region.
In an official statement, the Kingdom commended the efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Syed Asim Munir for their “productive role” in facilitating the agreement, highlighting Pakistan’s contribution to advancing diplomatic engagement.
The Kingdom reaffirmed its support for mediation efforts led by Pakistan aimed at achieving a comprehensive and lasting settlement that addresses longstanding sources of instability and insecurity in the region.
Saudi Arabia also underscored the importance of ensuring the uninterrupted flow of maritime traffic through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, in accordance with international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (1982).
Expressing optimism, the statement said the ceasefire should serve as an opportunity to achieve a broader and sustainable de-escalation, strengthen regional security, and prevent actions that could undermine the sovereignty and stability of countries in the region.
The development reflects growing international support for diplomatic initiatives to ease tensions and advance peace efforts in the Middle East.
