RAWALPINDI, Friday, Jan 30, 2026 (WNP): In a key confidence-building and security outreach initiative, a high-level Jirga (tribal council) comprising Maliks, community leaders, and tribal elders of North Waziristan was convened in Miranshah on Friday to reinforce collective efforts for peace, stability, and development in the region.
According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Jirga was organised by the Pakistan Army in close coordination with the district administration, reflecting a continued emphasis on inclusive engagement with local stakeholders in the former tribal districts.

Major General Adil Iftikhar, General Officer Commanding (GOC) Miranshah, warmly received the participants and acknowledged the pivotal role played by tribal elders in restoring and sustaining peace and prosperity in North Waziristan.
He underscored that durable security and socio-economic progress in the region remain closely linked to the active cooperation of local communities.
The participants were given a comprehensive briefing on the prevailing security situation, including ongoing challenges and attempts by active terrorist elements to undermine stability. The briefing highlighted how militant groups have been targeting development projects and critical communication infrastructure in an effort to disrupt normal life and hinder progress.
During the interactive session, detailed consultations were held on counter-terrorism measures, with a particular focus on countering the activities of Khwarij—militant elements accused of orchestrating violence and sabotage in the area. The forum emphasized the importance of timely intelligence-sharing, community vigilance, and coordinated action to neutralize such threats.

Tribal elders, in turn, reaffirmed their unwavering resolve to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the security forces and state institutions until the complete elimination of Fitna al-Khawarij. They stressed that peace and development in North Waziristan are collective responsibilities and vowed to deny space and support to elements seeking to destabilize the region.
The Jirga concluded with a shared commitment to continued dialogue, mutual trust, and joint efforts aimed at ensuring lasting peace, security, and socio-economic development in North Waziristan and the wider region.
