ISLAMABAD, Monday, June 15, 2026 (WNP): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday announced that Pakistan would host the signing ceremony of the United States-Iran peace agreement in Geneva on June 19, describing the accord as a historic achievement for global peace and a triumph of dialogue and diplomacy over war.

Addressing the National Assembly, the prime minister said the agreement marked a turning point in international efforts to resolve conflicts through peaceful means.

“Today the world has witnessed that the pursuit of peace has achieved a great victory and the flames of war have begun to subside. This is a historic moment that historians will record in golden letters,” he told the House.

Referring to the conclusion of negotiations between the United States and Iran, the prime minister said the development represented a moment of immense significance for regional and global stability.

Describing the occasion as a blessing after more than three months of intense challenges and uncertainty, he remarked that “following the dark night of war, the sun of peace has finally risen.”

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif informed lawmakers that under the agreement, Iran and the United States had announced the immediate and permanent cessation of military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon.

“This is not merely an agreement between two nations; it is a victory of peace, dialogue and diplomacy over the devastation of war,” he said.

The prime minister said the international recognition and respect earned by Pakistan through its diplomatic efforts was a source of pride for the nation and reflected the country’s commitment to promoting peace and stability.

He expressed gratitude to key regional and international leaders for their support of the peace process, including the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani; Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman; Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan; Chinese President Xi Jinping; United States President Donald Trump; Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei; and Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian.

The prime minister also acknowledged the contributions of negotiating teams from both countries, praising their wisdom, patience and commitment to finding a peaceful resolution.

He extended congratulations to the Pakistani nation and thanked President Asif Ali Zardari, Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, PML-N President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and leaders of other political parties for their support and guidance throughout the process.

Paying tribute to Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, the prime minister said he had played an extraordinary role in advancing peace efforts and remained fully engaged in the diplomatic process.

He noted that negotiations had faced several critical moments when progress appeared at risk, but the field marshal’s determination and steadfastness helped keep the process on track and contributed significantly to its successful outcome.

The prime minister also commended Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, officials of the Foreign Ministry and other state institutions for their dedicated efforts.

Calling upon the nation to offer prayers of gratitude, he said Pakistan had been blessed with unprecedented honour and recognition on the international stage.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif further noted that the conflict had imposed considerable economic pressures on Pakistan and the wider region, but praised the resilience demonstrated by the nation during the challenging period.

He also appreciated the role played by federal and provincial leaderships, particularly the chief ministers, in managing the impact of regional developments.

The prime minister expressed confidence that the restoration of peace would contribute to greater global economic stability and create opportunities for growth and prosperity.

He assured the nation that his government would work tirelessly to ensure that the benefits arising from regional peace and economic stability reached every Pakistani citizen.

The signing ceremony of the agreement is scheduled to take place in Geneva on June 19, marking what Pakistan’s leadership has described as a landmark step toward lasting peace, security and international cooperation.
