TRIPOLI, Thursday, December 18, 2025 (WNP/ISPR): Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, on Thursday held high-level meetings with senior Libyan military leadership as part of his official visit to Libya, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral defence and security cooperation.
During the visit, Field Marshal Asim Munir called on Field Marshal Khalifa Belqasim Haftar, Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces, and Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa Haftar, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Armed Forces. Upon his arrival, the Pakistani Army Chief was accorded a Guard of Honour by a smartly turned-out contingent of the Libyan Armed Forces, reflecting the warmth of bilateral ties.
The meetings focused on matters of mutual interest, evolving regional and global security dynamics, and opportunities to enhance military-to-military cooperation. Both sides emphasized the importance of closer collaboration in training, capacity building, and counter-terrorism, recognizing the shared security challenges facing the region and beyond.
Field Marshal Asim Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolve to deepen defence relations with Libya, underscoring that cooperation between the two countries is grounded in shared interests, mutual respect, and a common commitment to peace and stability.
Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar praised the professionalism and operational excellence of the Pakistan Armed Forces and expressed Libya’s desire to further expand defence cooperation with Pakistan, particularly in areas of training and institutional capacity development.
The visit reflects Pakistan’s broader engagement with regional partners to promote security collaboration and strengthen defence diplomacy through sustained high-level military exchanges.
