ISLAMABAD, Wednesday, August 13, 2025 (WNP): The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Islamabad, in collaboration with the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS), organized a blood donation drive under the theme “Donate Blood, Save Lives,” as part of celebrations for Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day and the 75th anniversary of Indonesia-Pakistan diplomatic relations.

The event was inaugurated by Indonesian Ambassador-designate to Pakistan, Chandra W. Sukotjo, who emphasized President Joko Widodo’s call to mark this year’s independence festivities with simplicity but deep social impact.

“Blood donation is a powerful reminder of the extraordinary impact donors have on the community. You are not only giving the gift of life to patients in need, but also offering hope and strength to their families,” the ambassador said, addressing an audience that included PRCS Chairperson Farzana Naek, ASEAN diplomats, members of the Islamabad Foreign Women’s Association (IFWA), Indonesian students, and Pakistani volunteers.

Chairperson Farzana Naek commended the Indonesian Embassy’s longstanding commitment to humanitarian causes, praising the success of past joint blood donation drives. “It is truly an honour to be at the Indonesian Embassy for such a noble cause,” she remarked, while expressing optimism for continued collaboration.

To strengthen future cooperation, the Indonesian Embassy and PRCS signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on humanitarian and emergency response partnership. “This partnership will act as a catalyst for further collaboration, fuelled by innovation, teamwork, and friendship,” Ambassador Sukotjo noted.

Participants expressed enthusiasm for contributing to the life-saving campaign. Lidzikri, an Indonesian student at the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), shared, “I had never donated blood before and was scared, but this time I dared. I realized it not only improves my health but also saves others’ lives.”

Foreign nationals also took part, including participants from Ethiopia, Eritrea, South Africa, the Philippines, and France, some donating blood for the very first time.

The event underscored the Indonesian Embassy’s commitment to humanitarian values while strengthening people-to-people ties and highlighting the enduring friendship between Pakistan and Indonesia.
