New Delhi, Thursday, May 14, 2026 (WNP): Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Thursday called for an end to “Western hegemony” and urging member states to prevent the politicization of international institutions.

Addressing at the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, hosted by Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Araghchi accused the United States and Israel of carrying out “brutal and unlawful aggression” against Iran, alleging that the attacks were based on false claims contradicting assessments by the International Atomic Energy Agency and even US intelligence findings.

He said Iran had become the victim of “illegal expansionism and warmongering,” stressing that regional instability harms all sides, including the aggressors. “Iran is unbreakable and only emerges stronger and more united under pressure,” he stated.

The Iranian foreign minister emphasized that Tehran remains committed to diplomacy despite maintaining readiness to defend its sovereignty. “There is no military solution to anything related to Iran,” he said, while asserting that the Iranian people would never surrender to pressure or threats.

Araghchi described BRICS as a symbol of an emerging global order in which the Global South would play a decisive role in shaping the future. He warned that declining global powers were attempting to preserve dominance through coercion, aggression, and interference.

He urged BRICS member states to collectively oppose a “false sense of entitlement” by Western powers and called for explicit condemnation of violations of international law by the United States and Israel.

The Iranian minister also called on BRICS countries to work toward ending impunity for violations of the UN Charter, stressing that international institutions must remain independent and free from political manipulation.

Referring to conflicts and humanitarian crises across the Global South, Araghchi said the world was witnessing increasing violations of sovereignty, aggression, and instability that demanded a collective and balanced international response.

He concluded by asserting that BRICS should emerge as a principal pillar of a “more just, balanced, and humane global order,” adding that nations defending their dignity and independence “may endure hardship, but will never be defeated.”
