RIYADH, Friday, May 8, 2026 (WNP): The specialized medical and surgical team of the Saudi Conjoined Twins Program successfully separated Tanzanian conjoined twins Nancy and Nice during a complex operation performed at King Abdullah Specialized Children’s Hospital in Riyadh.
Advisor to the Royal Court and Supervisor General of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, said the operation lasted 16-and-a-half hours and was carried out in 10 stages.

“By the grace of Allah and the dedicated efforts of my colleagues on the medical and surgical team, the Tanzanian twins Nancy and Nice were separated after a 16-and-a-half-hour procedure conducted across 10 stages,” he said.
Dr. Al Rabeeah said the operation involved 35 consultants, specialists and nursing and technical staff from various medical fields including anesthesia, pediatric surgery, plastic surgery, pediatric urology and pediatric orthopedics.
He explained that the twins were joined at the lower chest, abdomen and pelvis and shared several organs and bodily systems, including the liver, large intestine, urinary and reproductive systems.
According to Dr. Al Rabeeah, the operation marked the third successful separation of conjoined twins from Tanzania and the 71st procedure conducted under the Saudi Conjoined Twins Program.
He noted that over the past 35 years, the program had studied 157 cases from 28 countries, reflecting Saudi Arabia’s prominent humanitarian and medical role under the support of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud.
On behalf of the medical team, Dr. Al Rabeeah expressed appreciation to the Saudi leadership for its continued support, while the twins’ family thanked the Saudi authorities and medical staff for the care and efforts that ensured the success of the operation.
