TASHKENT, Monday, August 3, 2026 (WNP): Head of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Dr. Saida Mirziyoyeva, has announced that Uzbekistan has significantly strengthened legal penalties for animal cruelty, describing the reforms as an important step towards promoting compassion and respect for all living beings.

In a message shared on her official social media account on X, Dr. Mirziyoyeva said the new legal measures came into effect on June 28, introducing tougher sanctions for acts of cruelty against animals.

Under the revised legislation, fines for animal cruelty have been doubled, while offenders may now face administrative arrest for up to 15 days. Repeated violations can lead to criminal prosecution, including imprisonment.

Dr. Mirziyoyeva emphasized that the reforms are not merely punitive but reflect a broader commitment to strengthening the moral values of society.

“These changes are about more than punishment. They affirm a simple principle: respect for all forms of life is a value our society will protect,” she said.

She stressed that compassion is instilled during childhood and highlighted the vital role of parents in teaching children that true strength is never demonstrated through cruelty.
