PM Shehbaz Sharif, Saudi Environment Minister discuss expanding agricultural trade, technology and investment ties
ISLAMABAD, Friday, August 28, 2026 (WNP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Friday held a meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Engineer Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadley at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in agriculture, water management and food security.
Welcoming the Saudi minister, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed the deep-rooted and fraternal ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia and conveyed his warmest regards for the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
The Prime Minister said the recently signed Makkah Joint Defence Agreement between Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan had brought the three countries even closer and conveyed a strong message of unity and peace across the region.
He underscored that, as strategic partners, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia should now focus their efforts on deepening economic and agricultural cooperation to translate their longstanding relationship into a stronger and mutually beneficial trade and investment partnership.
The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction over the constructive engagement between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, particularly in expanding the export of Pakistani agricultural products to the Kingdom.
The two sides also exchanged views on measures to enhance agricultural productivity in Pakistan through the greater use of modern technology, research and development, and more efficient management of water resources.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that a delegation of Pakistani agricultural experts would soon visit Riyadh to advance the discussions and explore practical avenues for realizing the full potential of bilateral cooperation in the sector.
Saudi Minister Abdulrahman Al-Fadley thanked the Prime Minister for the warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation and reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to further deepening cooperation with Pakistan in the fields of agriculture, water management and food security.
The meeting highlighted the growing importance of economic and sectoral cooperation in the Pakistan-Saudi Arabia strategic partnership, particularly in areas that can contribute to food security, agricultural modernization, sustainable water management and increased bilateral trade and investment.
The meeting was attended by Federal Ministers Rana Tanveer Hussain, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Atta Tarar, Jam Kamal Khan, Dr. Musadik Malik and Junaid Anwar Chaudhry; Dr. Syed Tauqir Shah, Bilal Azhar Kiyani, SAPM Tariq Fatemi and senior government officials.
The discussions reflected the shared resolve of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia to build on their longstanding strategic relationship by expanding practical cooperation in key sectors and creating new opportunities for sustainable economic partnership.
