Qatar, Saudi Arabia discuss regional security, back US-Iran diplomacy

DOHA, Saturday, June 27, 2026 (WNP): Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah Al Saud discussed bilateral relations and regional developments during a telephone conversation on Saturday, reaffirming their support for diplomacy and efforts to strengthen peace and stability in the region.

According to a statement issued by Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two leaders reviewed bilateral cooperation and explored ways to further enhance coordination between Qatar and Saudi Arabia across areas of mutual interest.

The ministers also exchanged views on the latest regional developments, with particular focus on diplomatic initiatives aimed at reinforcing security and stability following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

During the conversation, Sheikh Mohammed underscored the importance of shielding the region from the consequences of unjustified attacks, safeguarding freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, and maintaining the momentum of dialogue and diplomacy to reduce tensions.

He stressed the need to build upon the gains achieved through the Memorandum of Understanding in order to strengthen regional and international peace and security.

The Qatari prime minister reaffirmed his country’s full support for the ongoing negotiations between the United States and Iran, expressing hope that the talks would lead to sustainable and peaceful solutions to outstanding issues through dialogue.

He said continued diplomatic engagement would contribute to enhancing regional security, opening new avenues for cooperation, development and prosperity, and advancing the shared interests of the peoples of the region and the wider international community.

The two ministers reaffirmed the importance of close consultation and coordinated diplomatic efforts to address regional challenges and promote long-term peace, stability and economic cooperation across the Middle East.
