URMIA, Friday, June 26, 2026 (WNP): Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian has called on Muslims to uphold justice, dignity and steadfastness against oppression, saying the timeless message of Imam Hussein (AS) continues to inspire oppressed people around the world to resist tyranny.

Addressing mourners during the Arbaeen mourning dinner ceremony at the Hazrat Ali ibn Musa al-Reza (AS) Mosque in Urmia, President Pezeshkian said the sacrifice of Imam Hussein (AS) was a universal symbol of truth, justice and human dignity.

“The blood of Imam Hussein (AS) has called upon oppressed people to stand firm against tyranny,” the president said.

He stressed that a nation inspired by the teachings of Imam Hussein (AS) must embody honour, dignity and self-respect in both its values and conduct.

“A Husseini country must be one that enjoys dignity and pride,” he remarked.

President Pezeshkian further emphasized that justice should be reflected through practical action rather than rhetoric.

“We must demonstrate justice in our actions, rather than merely settling for words and speeches,” he said, urging society to translate the principles of Karbala into everyday life and governance.

Later, the Iranian president attended the Sham-e Ghariban ceremony organized by the Husseinian Board in Urmia, where he joined thousands of mourners commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) and his devoted companions.

The ceremonies, held during the sacred month of Muharram, drew large gatherings of devotees who paid tribute to the sacrifices made at Karbala while renewing their commitment to the enduring values of faith, justice, compassion and resistance against oppression.

President Pezeshkian’s participation underscored the significance of Muharram commemorations in Iran and reaffirmed the universal message of Imam Hussein (AS), whose legacy continues to inspire millions across the Muslim world in their pursuit of justice, unity and human dignity.
