President Zardari, Uzbek Envoy discuss trade, connectivity, regional integration

ISLAMABAD, Wednesday, April 15, 2026 (WNP): Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Pakistan, Alisher Tukhtaev, called on President Asif Ali Zardari at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Wednesday, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations.

During the meeting, the President underscored that Pakistan attaches the highest importance to its fraternal ties with Uzbekistan, rooted in shared history, culture and mutual trust.

He appreciated the positive trajectory of bilateral relations and conveyed his warm greetings to Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

President Zardari emphasized the need to enhance bilateral trade through diversification, improved market access and the early operationalisation of trade facilitation mechanisms. He also encouraged stronger business-to-business linkages and increased investment in key sectors.

Highlighting the importance of regional connectivity, the President said Pakistan offers the shortest access to warm waters through Gwadar and Karachi ports, and reiterated support for the Trans-Afghan Railway project. He stressed that lasting peace and stability in the region are essential to achieving shared economic and connectivity goals.

Ambassador Tukhtaev thanked the President for the warm reception and reaffirmed Uzbekistan’s commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation.

He expressed keen interest in expanding trade, investment and connectivity, appreciated Pakistan’s role in promoting regional integration, and conveyed his country’s recognition of Pakistan’s efforts in advancing peace at both regional and global levels.
