Japan PM backs Pakistan’s peace efforts as Shehbaz, Takaichi discuss Islamabad Talks

ISLAMABAD, Monday, April 13, 2026 (WNP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday received a telephone call from Prime Minister of Japan, Sanae Takaichi, during which the two leaders discussed the recent Islamabad Talks between the United States and Iran hosted by Pakistan.

During the warm and cordial conversation, Prime Minister Takaichi appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic role in facilitating the ceasefire and the dialogue process, expressing Japan’s full support for the peace initiative and its significance for regional stability and global energy security.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while thanking his Japanese counterpart for her goodwill, expressed appreciation to both the US and Iranian delegations for their constructive engagement in Islamabad.

He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to continuing its efforts to ensure that the ceasefire holds and leads to lasting peace.

The Prime Minister also conveyed his desire to further strengthen bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Japan, a sentiment that was reciprocated by Prime Minister Takaichi.

Both leaders agreed to maintain close coordination on matters of mutual interest, reflecting the steady growth in Pakistan–Japan relations.
