Pakistan, Uzbekistan agree to expand cooperation in media, film, cultural sectors

ISLAMABAD, Monday, June 8, 2026 (WNP): Pakistan and Uzbekistan on Monday agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation in media, film production and cultural exchanges during a meeting between Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar and Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan Alisher Tukhtaev.

The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between the two countries in the fields of media, film and culture, with both sides exploring opportunities for joint productions, including short films, documentaries and television drama series.

According to officials, the discussions also covered measures to deepen institutional linkages for promoting cultural exchange and people-to-people contacts through media and creative industries.

Ambassador Tukhtaev appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting regional peace and stability and acknowledged Islamabad’s efforts in advancing dialogue and peace-related initiatives.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Tarar said Pakistan attaches great importance to its longstanding and friendly relations with Uzbekistan and is keen to further expand cooperation across a range of sectors, particularly media, film and cultural affairs.

He said both countries share rich historical and cultural ties that could be effectively showcased through collaborative media projects.

“We are exploring various avenues for joint creative productions based on shared themes and historical connections, including short films, documentaries and drama serials,” the minister said.

Tarar noted that such initiatives would require the participation of experienced production houses and added that larger film projects could be pursued through joint financing mechanisms involving stakeholders from both countries.

The minister emphasized the importance of highlighting the common cultural heritage, historical links and civilizational connections between Pakistan and Uzbekistan through jointly produced content.

The two sides also agreed to enhance cooperation between their respective social media teams to develop joint digital content and coordinate online promotional campaigns aimed at strengthening public awareness of bilateral relations.

During the meeting, both sides expressed interest in expanding collaboration between media organizations of Pakistan and Uzbekistan and facilitating greater professional interaction among journalists.

Tarar said journalist exchange and study visits would contribute significantly to promoting mutual understanding, strengthening professional ties and enhancing cooperation between media institutions of the two countries.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to closer engagement with Uzbekistan, the minister said sustained cooperation in media and culture would further strengthen the bonds of friendship between the peoples of the two countries.

The meeting reflects the growing momentum in Pakistan-Uzbekistan relations as both countries seek to deepen cooperation in diverse sectors, including trade, connectivity, culture, education and media.
