SINGAPORE, Thursday, July 3, 2025 (WNP): The High Commission of Pakistan in Singapore held a special screening of the acclaimed Pakistani feature film Nayab as part of its ongoing cultural diplomacy efforts aimed at strengthening people-to-people connections and fostering mutual understanding between Pakistan and Singapore.

The event brought together members of the diplomatic corps, Singaporean government officials, media representatives, film industry professionals, and members of the Pakistani diaspora. It served as a platform to showcase Pakistan’s evolving creative landscape and encourage dialogue through the universal language of cinema.

In her opening remarks, High Commissioner Rabia Shafiq highlighted the significance of cultural exchange and the transformative power of storytelling. She emphasized that contemporary Pakistani cinema is a reflection of the nation’s diversity, resilience, and dynamic societal shifts.

Nayab is more than just a film—it’s a story of dreams, determination, and breaking barriers,” said High Commissioner Shafiq. “It represents the voice of a generation that is redefining identity and challenging norms through creativity and courage.”

Directed by Umair Nasir Ali, Nayab tells the inspiring coming-of-age story of a young woman from Karachi who dares to dream of playing for Pakistan’s national cricket team, defying social constraints and family expectations in her pursuit of excellence.

The screening received an overwhelmingly positive response from the audience, who lauded the film’s powerful message, compelling performances, and strong direction. Many attendees noted the film’s impactful portrayal of gender empowerment, cultural identity, and the pursuit of the impossible.

The event marked another milestone in the High Commission’s efforts to use cultural platforms as bridges between nations, reinforcing cinema’s role in bringing communities together across borders.
