ISLAMABAD, Sunday, July 26, 2026 (WNP): Pakistan and China are intensifying diplomatic efforts to help revive negotiations between the United States and Iran, with Tehran reportedly expressing its willingness to resume dialogue under the framework of the existing memorandum of understanding, according to senior regional sources.

According to sources cited by Al Arabiya, Iran has informed Pakistan that it is prepared to continue negotiations with the United States in Geneva, Doha, or Islamabad, while emphasizing that future talks should proceed in accordance with the previously agreed memorandum of understanding.

The sources said Tehran has outlined a phased agenda for renewed negotiations, proposing that discussions begin with issues related to the Strait of Hormuz, followed by negotiations on Iran’s frozen overseas assets, and subsequently its nuclear programme.

Iran has also reportedly informed Pakistan that it opposes the establishment of any new maritime corridor through the Strait of Hormuz, reaffirming its position on maintaining the existing strategic waterway.

Separately, senior sources told Al Arabiya that China is working closely with Pakistan to coordinate diplomatic initiatives aimed at reducing tensions between Washington and Tehran and facilitating the resumption of direct dialogue between the two countries.

The reported contacts include discussions on reciprocal confidence-building measures designed to create favourable conditions for broader negotiations covering Iran’s nuclear programme, regional security issues, and sanctions.

According to the sources, the initiative also seeks to engage Gulf states and other key regional stakeholders in a wider diplomatic process intended to support long-term stability, reduce regional tensions, and encourage peaceful resolution of outstanding disputes.

Neither Pakistani nor Chinese authorities have publicly commented on the reported diplomatic initiative, while there has been no official confirmation from Iran or the United States regarding the details of the reported proposals.

If confirmed, the initiative would further underscore Pakistan’s growing diplomatic role in facilitating regional dialogue and complement ongoing international efforts to promote de-escalation, confidence-building, and peaceful engagement across the Middle East.
