NCP, Türkiye pledge stronger ties in meeting with Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan

DHAKA, Sunday, June 7, 2026 (WNP): A delegation of Bangladesh’s National Citizen Party (NCP), led by its Convener and Opposition Chief Whip Md. Nahid Islam, held talks with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Dhaka, discussing bilateral cooperation, regional issues and avenues for strengthening ties between Bangladesh and Türkiye.

The meeting took place at a hotel in the Bangladeshi capital during Foreign Minister Fidan’s visit to the country.

During the discussions, Fidan congratulated the NCP leadership for its role in the July Revolution, which resulted in the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government and ushered in a new political chapter in Bangladesh.

The NCP delegation thanked Türkiye for its diplomatic support and expressed appreciation for Ankara’s continued engagement in efforts aimed at addressing the Rohingya refugee crisis.

The two sides exchanged views on a broad range of bilateral and strategic issues, with particular focus on expanding defence cooperation, enhancing trade relations and further strengthening diplomatic engagement between the two countries.

Both sides also underscored the importance of deepening people-to-people contacts and promoting greater cooperation between the younger generations of Bangladesh and Türkiye.

NCP leaders highlighted the need for robust exchange programmes to facilitate educational, cultural and professional interaction between Bangladeshi and Turkish youth, describing such initiatives as essential for fostering long-term cooperation and mutual understanding.

The meeting reflected the growing importance of Bangladesh-Türkiye relations and the shared interest of both sides in expanding collaboration across political, economic and strategic sectors.

The NCP delegation included Member Secretary Akhter Hossen MP, Chief Coordinator Nasir Uddin Patwari, Joint Convener Atiq Mujahid MP, International Affairs In-Charge Alauddin Mohammad, and Joint Member Secretaries Homaira Noor and Rafe Salman Rifat.
