TEHRAN, Monday, April 20, 2026 (WNP): Iran has stated that Pakistan is currently the sole active mediator in ongoing diplomatic efforts, while criticizing the United States for undermining the credibility of the mediation process.

Responding to a question, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said, “At present, our only mediator is Pakistan,” adding that although other countries remain in contact and are offering goodwill efforts, Islamabad is clearly leading the process for now.

He emphasized that the role of a mediator carries significant responsibility, noting that maintaining credibility is essential not only for the mediating country but also for the broader institution of mediation as a recognized mechanism for peaceful dispute resolution.

Baqaei further alleged that the United States had “betrayed the diplomatic process” over the past year, warning that such actions risk undermining trust in mediation efforts and international legal frameworks.

He said such developments are not only unfavorable for the mediating country but also damaging for international law and institutions that have historically served as tools for the peaceful resolution of disputes between nations.

The remarks come amid ongoing regional tensions, as diplomatic efforts continue to focus on de-escalation and restoring dialogue through mediation channels.
