ISLAMABAD, Friday, June 12, 2026 (WNP): Pakistan and Iran on Monday signaled significant progress toward the finalization of a landmark peace agreement, with senior leaders from both countries indicating that negotiations have reached an advanced stage amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to secure regional stability.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan’s mediation initiative was approaching a critical breakthrough despite attempts to undermine the process through misinformation.

In a statement posted on his official X account, the prime minister said Pakistan remained actively engaged in facilitating the agreement and was working closely with all parties involved.

“Amid ongoing intense mediation efforts by Pakistan, we are fully aware of the incessant misinformation campaign being waged by those who want to sabotage the peace deal,” Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said.

“Setting aside the noise, we can confirm that a final, agreed-upon text of the peace deal has been reached and Pakistan is now working closely with both sides to finalize the next steps.”

The prime minister expressed optimism about the prospects for a lasting settlement, describing the current moment as one of the closest points yet to achieving peace. “Peace has never been this close as it is now,” he added.

Echoing the positive outlook, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said the proposed Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding was nearing completion and urged restraint in public speculation regarding its contents. “The Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding has never been closer,” Araghchi said.

He called on media organizations and commentators to avoid conjecture until the agreement is formally concluded.

“Pending its finalization, the media should refrain from entering speculation about its content,” the Iranian foreign minister stated.

Araghchi said the Iranian government remained committed to transparency and would disclose details of the agreement at an appropriate time. “In line with our responsible and transparent approach, all details will be shared with the public in due course,” he added.

The latest statements come amid intensified diplomatic engagement led by Pakistan, which has played a central role in facilitating dialogue and confidence-building efforts for reducing tensions and promoting regional peace.

While officials have not publicly disclosed the full contents of the proposed memorandum, the remarks from Islamabad and Tehran suggest that negotiations have entered their final phase, with attention now focused on procedural and implementation arrangements.

Diplomatic observers view the development as a potentially significant breakthrough for regional stability, with expectations growing that a formal announcement or signing ceremony could take place in the near future.

The agreement, once finalized, is expected to mark a major milestone in ongoing efforts to strengthen regional cooperation, reduce tensions and create a framework for long-term peace and dialogue.
