TEHRAN, Saturday, February 28, 2026 (WNP): Iran on Saturday accused the United States and Israel of carrying out an “egregious and unwarranted act of aggression” against its territory, alleging that civilian areas, including a primary school, were targeted in recent attacks.
In a statement, Esmaeil Baqaei, Head of the Center for Public Diplomacy and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, said Iranian cities were “indiscriminately targeted.”
He claimed that in one incident, a primary school in Minab, located in Hormozgan Province, was struck, resulting in the deaths and injuries of several young girls.
“This is a blatant crime,” Baqaei said, calling on the international community to respond. He urged the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to act immediately in line with its primary responsibility under the UN Charter to maintain international peace and security.
The aggression would mark a significant escalation in regional tensions. The situation could have far-reaching implications for stability in the Middle East, already strained by ongoing conflicts and geopolitical rivalries.
Iran called on the international community to stand against “grave injustice,” stressing that accountability and multilateral action were essential to prevent further escalation.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi strongly condemned an unprovoked and illegal war against Iran, blaming Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump for escalating hostilities.
In a statement, Araghchi termed the alleged military action “wholly unprovoked, illegal and illegitimate,” asserting that it violated international law and Iranian sovereignty.
He accused Trump of prioritizing Israeli interests over American ones, stating that the “America First” policy had been turned into “Israel First,” which he claimed ultimately harms US interests.
The foreign minister further alleged that a primary school for girls in southern Iran was bombed in broad daylight while it was filled with students. He said dozens of children were killed at the site.
Describing the attack as a crime against the Iranian people, Araghchi warned that the country’s armed forces were fully prepared to respond.
“Our powerful armed forces are prepared for this day and will teach the aggressors the lesson they deserve,” he said, adding that the deaths of innocent civilians would not go unanswered.
There was no immediate response from Israeli or US officials regarding the allegations at the time of filing this report.
The statements mark a sharp escalation in rhetoric amid rising tensions in the region, raising concerns within the international community about the potential for wider conflict.
