RAWALPINDI, Monday, January 19, 2026 (WNP): Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), on Monday visited the National Police Academy (NPA), Islamabad, where he engaged with officers of the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) and underscored the central role of a professional, people-centric police force in ensuring internal security and the rule of law.

The visit was also attended by the Federal Minister for Interior and the Minister of State for Interior, reflecting the importance attached by the civilian and military leadership to police reform and capacity building.

Upon arrival, the Field Marshal was received by the Commandant of the National Police Academy and presented with a guard of honour by a police contingent. He later laid a wreath at the Police Martyrs’ Monument and offered Fateha in tribute to police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty while safeguarding public safety and upholding the rule of law.

Paying homage to the sacrifices of police Shuhada, the Field Marshal acknowledged the critical role played by law enforcement officers in confronting terrorism, crime, and complex internal security challenges across the country.

During the visit, the Field Marshal was briefed on the School for High-Impact Elite Law Enforcement Development (SHIELD), along with ongoing training initiatives aimed at modernising policing practices and enhancing professional capacity. He also interacted with Cadet Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs), highlighting the police’s position as the first line of defence in protecting citizens’ lives, property, and dignity.

Addressing Inspectors General of Police (IGPs), Additional IGPs, and senior police officials, Field Marshal Munir stressed the importance of inter-agency coordination, modern investigative techniques, and community-oriented policing. He noted that public trust in law enforcement remains essential for sustainable internal security.

“The responsibility to enforce law and order is a sacred trust,” the Field Marshal said, reiterating that the Pakistan Armed Forces will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with the police in fulfilling this national duty.

Senior police leadership, in turn, reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening policing standards, improving institutional capacity, and pursuing reforms required to meet evolving security and governance challenges.

The visit highlighted growing emphasis on civil–military synergy in internal security, as Pakistan continues to focus on professionalising law enforcement and reinforcing public confidence in state institutions.
