Pakistan, Iran agree to deepen security cooperation, strengthen border management

TEHRAN, Wednesday, October 29, 2025 (WNP): Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Wednesday held separate high-level meetings with Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Ardeshir Larijani and Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni in Tehran for expanding bilateral cooperation in security, counterterrorism, and border management.

Upon arrival at the Supreme National Security Council, Minister Naqvi was warmly received by Secretary Larijani. The two leaders discussed a wide range of issues, including joint efforts against terrorism, narcotics trafficking, and cross-border challenges, while underscoring the need for closer institutional collaboration between the two neighboring countries.

“We are keen to expand cooperation with Iran, especially in the areas of security and counter-narcotics,” Minister Naqvi said.

Secretary Larijani praised the positive trajectory of Pakistan–Iran relations, describing the ongoing engagement as “encouraging and constructive.”

In a separate meeting with Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, both sides agreed to broaden mutual cooperation on internal security and regional peace. Minister Naqvi congratulated his counterpart on successfully hosting the ECO Ministerial Conference, calling it a milestone event with far-reaching regional implications.

“We wish to benefit from each other’s experiences in managing internal security,” Minister Naqvi stated, extending an invitation to Minister Momeni to visit Pakistan.

Accepting the invitation, Momeni said he looked forward to visiting Islamabad “to meet my brother,” while thanking Pakistan for its active participation in the ECO forum.

The meetings were attended by Federal Interior Secretary Khurram Agha, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Iran Muhammad Mudassir Tipu, senior officials from Iran’s Interior Ministry, and members of the diplomatic community.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing intelligence sharing, coordinated border mechanisms, and joint action against transnational crimes, reflecting a shared resolve to promote regional stability, peace, and mutual prosperity.
