ANKARA, Friday, August 29, 2025 (WNP): Türkiye has fully suspended trade and transport ties with Israel, with Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announcing Friday that Turkish ships will no longer be permitted to dock at Israeli ports and Israeli aircraft will be barred from Turkish airspace.

Addressing an extraordinary session of the Turkish Parliament on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Fidan accused Israel of committing crimes that he described as “one of the darkest chapters in human history.”

“For two years, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza, disregarding basic human values before the eyes of the world,” he said. Fidan emphasized that Palestinians’ resistance against Israel would “alter the course of history, become a symbol for the oppressed, and shake the foundations of a decaying order.”

Rejecting any plans to displace Palestinians from Gaza, the foreign minister stressed, “Regardless of who proposes it, such a plan is invalid for us.” He also condemned Israel’s military operations beyond Gaza, citing attacks in Lebanon, Yemen, Syria, and Iran as evidence of what he called a “terrorist state mentality defying the international order.”

The Turkish Parliament adopted a strongly worded resolution denouncing Israel’s “expanded occupation” of Gaza and accusing it of genocide. The declaration urged the suspension of Israel’s membership in the United Nations and other international bodies until it halts its “genocidal policies.”

The motion further called on parliaments worldwide to sever military and commercial ties with Israel and to take urgent steps to lift the embargo on Palestine.

The extraordinary parliamentary session concluded with Fidan briefing lawmakers on the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where thousands remain trapped under siege.

The developments follow the International Criminal Court’s issuance of arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, charging them with war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
