ISLAMABAD, Friday, June 13, 2025 (WNP): Pakistan’s top leadership on Friday strongly condemned the large-scale Israeli military strikes on Iran, denouncing them as a blatant violation of Iranian sovereignty and international law, while warning of grave regional and global repercussions if the aggression is not stopped immediately.
President Asif Ali Zardari, in a statement issued by the Presidency, termed the strikes “a flagrant violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iran” and “a total disregard of the UN Charter and the fundamental principles of international law.” He expressed his deepest sympathies with the people of Iran over the loss of lives and urged the United Nations and the international community to hold the aggressor accountable and take urgent action to de-escalate the situation.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in a strongly worded post on X, also denounced the attack as “unprovoked” and “deeply alarming,” adding that the Israeli action could dangerously destabilize an already volatile Middle East. “I condemn, in the strongest possible terms, today’s unprovoked attack on Iran by Israel,” he said, extending heartfelt condolences to the Iranian people and urging the UN to intervene.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar echoed similar sentiments, describing the Israeli strikes as a “brazen violation” of Iran’s sovereignty. He said the attacks had “shaken the foundations of international law and the conscience of humanity.” Dar reiterated Pakistan’s firm support for the Iranian people and called for immediate global action to halt further aggression.
The Foreign Office, in a formal statement, condemned the Israeli military strikes as “unjustified and illegitimate” and reaffirmed that Iran has the right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter. Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan said, “These blatant provocations pose a grave threat to peace, security, and stability in the region and beyond. The international community must act now to uphold international law and prevent a wider conflict.”
Meanwhile, the Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister also spoke with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi to express solidarity and extend condolences over the loss of lives. According to a statement from the DPM’s Office, Dar reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and condemned Israel’s military aggression as a gross violation of international norms.
As the regional situation deteriorated, the Pakistani government also issued a travel advisory, urging citizens, particularly religious pilgrims (Zaireen), to reconsider travel plans to Iran and Iraq. The Foreign Office activated a 24/7 Crisis Management Unit (CMU) to monitor the evolving situation and facilitate the safety and security of Pakistani nationals in Iran.
“In order to ensure safety and security of our nationals/Zaireen in Iran, we have activated a 24/7 Crisis Management Unit,” Ishaq Dar announced on X, noting that the Pakistan Embassy in Tehran was on high alert and had been directed to assist all Pakistani citizens in need. A hotline number was also issued for emergency contact.
The strikes, according to Iran’s state-run media and Tasnim News Agency, resulted in the assassination of several high-ranking Iranian military officials and nuclear scientists. Among the victims were Chief Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Major General Hossein Salami, Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Major General Mohammad Baqeri, and Commander of Khatam al-Anbia Headquarters Major General Gholamali Rashid.
Iranian nuclear scientists Mohammad-Mehdi Tehranchi, President of Islamic Azad University, and Fereydoun Abbasi, former head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, were also reportedly killed in separate Israeli strikes.
The unprecedented escalation has triggered widespread concern among regional and global powers, as fears of a broader conflict loom large.
