ISLAMABAD, Sunday, May 18, 2025 (WNP): Muhammad Ali Swati, a young humanitarian from Mansehra in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has been awarded the coveted ‘Hamaray Heroes’ title by the Pakistan Super League (PSL), in recognition of his extraordinary courage during two major rescue operations in Battagram and Naran
The *Hamaray Heroes initiative, launched by the PSL, celebrates individuals making impactful contributions to society beyond the realm of cricket—ranging from education and science to humanitarian service and climate action.
Swati shot to national prominence in August 2023 when he played a key role in the dramatic rescue of schoolchildren trapped in a malfunctioning cable car in Battagram. Suspended precariously hundreds of feet above a ravine, the high-risk operation, broadcast live across global media, was hailed as one of Pakistan’s most complex and daring rescue efforts.
Later, Swati again rose to the challenge during the devastating Naran flash floods, leading a critical emergency response that helped save the lives of more than 700 stranded tourists. His swift coordination with local volunteers and resource mobilization during the early hours of the crisis proved vital in preventing large-scale tragedy.
His selection for the PSL honour came after a comprehensive review of his efforts and widespread public admiration. “It’s not about being a hero,” Swati said after receiving the award. “It’s about stepping forward when lives are in danger. Every second matters.”
Swati’s life-saving work has previously earned him praise from former Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar and multiple accolades, including the Fakhre Hazara Award and the Pride of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Award, presented by the provincial government in collaboration with Metrix Pakistan.
Beyond rescue missions, Swati is also an emerging entrepreneur. He is the founder of Heavens Way Adventure, an eco-tourism enterprise in the scenic Kaghan Valley. The venture launched South Asia’s longest and highest zipline, not only boosting responsible tourism but also generating employment for local communities. His organization actively promotes climate awareness and disaster preparedness.
A staunch believer in community empowerment, Swati continues to train young volunteers, aiming to build robust emergency response systems in remote and underserved areas.
His message resonates with quiet power: “Ordinary citizens, if willing and equipped, can make an extraordinary difference.”
