Defence cooperation, trade and investment also come under discussion; Turkish firms keen to participate in key sectors

ISLAMABAD, Thursday, September 10, 2026 (WNP): Former Punjab Chief Minister and Member of the National Assembly Muhammad Hamza Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday met Ambassador of Türkiye to Pakistan Dr. Irfan Neziroglu at the Prime Minister’s House and discussed bilateral relations, defence cooperation, trade and investment.

Deputy Ambassador Berk ECE was also present during the meeting.

The two sides reviewed the longstanding brotherly relations between Pakistan and Türkiye, with particular focus on recent developments in defence cooperation and the need to further expand bilateral trade and investment ties.

Dr. Irfan Neziroglu expressed keen interest in greater participation by Turkish businesses in Pakistan, particularly in the maritime sector, infrastructure development and the proposed privatisation and restructuring of power distribution companies (DISCOs).

Hamza Shehbaz welcomed Türkiye’s continued interest in Pakistan and stressed the need to translate the two countries’ strong political relationship into deeper economic, commercial and business partnerships.

The meeting also underscored the importance of creating greater opportunities for Turkish investment and business-to-business cooperation in key sectors of Pakistan’s economy.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the strategic and economic partnership between Pakistan and Türkiye and enhancing cooperation for mutual benefit.
