London backs Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s right to defend security and sovereignty, warns of wider regional and humanitarian risks

LONDON, Thursday, September 10, 2026 (WNP): The United Kingdom has strongly condemned the Houthis’ resumption of conflict in Yemen and their recent attacks on Saudi Arabia, including strikes targeting civilian and energy infrastructure.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the UK expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia, the internationally recognised Government of Yemen and regional partners, while offering condolences to those injured and affected by the attacks.

The UK said the Houthis’ decision to resume hostilities had placed vulnerable Yemeni civilians at further risk and contributed to worsening the humanitarian situation in the country.

It also warned that continued Houthi attacks posed a threat to wider regional stability, freedom of navigation and vital international trade routes through the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab.

The UK reaffirmed that Saudi Arabia and Yemen have the right to defend their security and sovereignty in accordance with international law.

London said it was working with regional and international partners to support stability, protect civilians and maintain humanitarian access to Yemen.

The United Kingdom called on the Houthis to immediately cease their attacks and end further escalation, stressing the need for de-escalation to protect civilians and prevent further deterioration of the regional security and humanitarian situation.
