OTTAWA, Sunday, July 26, 2026 (WNP): Canada and the Ismaili Imamat are strengthening their longstanding partnership to advance sustainable development, climate resilience, women’s empowerment, and economic opportunity, Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand said on Sunday.
In a statement, Foreign Minister Anand said the enhanced cooperation builds on commitments made four months ago when Prime Minister Mark Carney and His Highness the Aga Khan laid the foundation for a more ambitious partnership between Canada and the Ismaili Imamat.
She said the two sides established a shared agenda focused on housing, economic development, energy, and investment in emerging markets, adding that both partners are now working together to translate those priorities into concrete initiatives.
Anand highlighted Canada’s deep and enduring ties with the Ismaili community, noting that the country is home to one of the largest Ismaili populations in the world, whose contributions have enriched Canadian society for generations.
She said that shared history has created a strong foundation for broader cooperation between Canada and the Ismaili Imamat, enabling both partners to promote common values and pursue a shared mission of inclusive and sustainable development.
The foreign minister said the partnership is helping strengthen climate resilience, expand opportunities for women and girls, and support sustainable development in communities around the world.
