President expresses confidence in stronger Pakistan-Italy ties, seeks expanded trade and investment with South Korea
ISLAMABAD, Wednesday, August 12, 2026 (WNP): President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday received the credentials of Ambassador-designate of Italy Ugo Ciarlatani and Ambassador-designate of the Republic of Korea Han Sungho at a ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadr.
During his meeting with Ambassador Ciarlatani, the President expressed confidence that his tenure would contribute to further strengthening the longstanding Pakistan-Italy relationship.
President Zardari noted the steady growth in bilateral ties, particularly in the areas of trade and investment, and said bilateral trade between the two countries had surpassed the US$1 billion mark.
He welcomed the signing of an agreement abolishing visa requirements for diplomatic passport holders, describing it as a positive development for bilateral engagement.
The President also appreciated Italy’s support for Pakistan’s candidature for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2025-26 term.
He highlighted the important role of the Pakistani community in Italy, describing it as a bridge between the two countries and an important contributor to strengthening people-to-people ties.
During his meeting with Ambassador Han Sungho, President Zardari said Pakistan attached great importance to its multidimensional relationship with the Republic of Korea and expressed the country’s desire to further expand bilateral trade and investment.
He welcomed the ongoing negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and appreciated cooperation between Pakistan and South Korea in areas including climate change, development and defence.
The President expressed hope that bilateral cooperation in shipbuilding, technology and economic development would continue to expand, creating new opportunities for mutually beneficial engagement.
Senator Saleem Mandviwalla and Secretary Foreign Affairs were also present on the occasion.
