PM Shehbaz, Field Marshal Asim meet US Vice President JD Vance on sidelines of Islamabad MoU talks

BÜRGENSTOCK, Sunday, June 21, 2026 (WNP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on Sunday held a bilateral meeting with United States Vice President J.D. Vance on the sidelines of the high-level technical talks on the implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (Islamabad MoU) in Bürgenstock, Switzerland.

The meeting took place during the high-level negotiations being held as a follow-up to the landmark Islamabad MoU aimed at advancing the implementation of the agreement between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to official information, the meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Vice President Vance exchanging warm greetings and reaffirming the importance of continued diplomatic engagement in support of regional peace and stability.

Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff and senior presidential adviser Jared Kushner were also present during the meeting.

The discussions were held alongside the high-level technical talks focused on implementing the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, which was electronically signed by U.S. President Donald J. Trump and Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, and endorsed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in his capacity as mediator.

The Bürgenstock talks are expected to address technical modalities for implementing the agreement’s provisions and sustaining momentum towards lasting peace, regional stability and constructive dialogue between the United States and Iran.
