BÜRGENSTOCK, Sunday, June 21, 2026 (WNP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on Sunday held a meeting with a high-level Iranian delegation led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the United States-Iran technical-level talks being held in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, as a follow-up to the implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (Islamabad MoU).
The meeting took place during the first round of technical negotiations aimed at implementing the provisions of the Islamabad MoU, which was electronically signed by United States President Donald J. Trump and Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, and endorsed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in his capacity as mediator.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir exchanged views with the Iranian delegation on advancing the implementation process, sustaining the ceasefire, and ensuring continued diplomatic engagement to promote regional peace, stability and mutual confidence.
The Iranian delegation was headed by Speaker of Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who are leading Tehran’s team in the technical discussions taking place under the Islamabad MoU framework.
The high-level talks in Bürgenstock are focused on the technical modalities of implementing the agreement, including confidence-building measures and follow-up mechanisms envisaged under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, with the objective of consolidating peace and promoting long-term regional stability.
