ISLAMABAD, Saturday, June 20, 2026 (WNP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday departed for Switzerland, leading a high-level Pakistani delegation to participate in technical-level talks on the implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (Islamabad MoU) between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The talks are scheduled to be held on June 21 in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, as a follow-up to the signing of the landmark Islamabad MoU aimed at advancing the implementation of the agreement.
Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir will also participate in the discussions alongside the prime minister.
According to official sources, the technical-level negotiations will focus on practical modalities for implementing various provisions of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and advancing the next phase of the peace process.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is leading a high-level delegation comprising senior government officials and relevant representatives to engage with the participating sides on issues related to the implementation framework of the agreement.
The Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, electronically signed by United States President Donald J. Trump and Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, was endorsed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in his capacity as mediator.
The agreement entered into force immediately following its signing and is regarded as a significant diplomatic milestone aimed at reducing regional tensions, restoring maritime navigation, and laying the groundwork for broader negotiations on outstanding bilateral issues.
The Bürgenstock talks are expected to build upon the momentum generated by the agreement and facilitate technical consultations necessary for the effective implementation of its provisions while reinforcing efforts to promote lasting peace, stability and regional cooperation.
