Uzbekistan lauds Pakistan’s mediation role in Islamabad MoU, backs continued peace efforts

ISLAMABAD, Saturday, June 20, 2026 (WNP): Uzbekistan on Saturday commended Pakistan’s constructive diplomatic role in facilitating the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (Islamabad MoU) between the United States and Iran, describing Islamabad’s mediation efforts as a significant contribution to regional and international peace.

The appreciation was conveyed during a telephone conversation between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov.

During the conversation, Foreign Minister Saidov conveyed the congratulations of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and his own felicitations to Senator Ishaq Dar on the successful signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.

He also commended the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their constructive role in facilitating the diplomatic process that led to the landmark agreement.

The Uzbek foreign minister praised Pakistan’s role as a mediator and acknowledged its significant contribution to advancing international peace efforts, as well as promoting regional peace, stability and dialogue.

Both leaders expressed satisfaction over the progress achieved through the diplomatic initiative and voiced hope that the next phase of engagement would build upon these achievements, paving the way for lasting peace, stability and prosperity across the region and beyond.

The two foreign ministers also reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close coordination and regular consultations on bilateral relations and regional and international issues of mutual interest.
