Mirziyoyev, Putin discuss strategic partnership, economic cooperation in Moscow

MOSCOW, Friday, May 8, 2026 (WNP): President of Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of Vladimir Putin held talks in Moscow on Friday within the framework of events marking the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Second World War.

At the outset of the meeting, the two leaders exchanged congratulations on the commemorative occasion and discussed the further development of Uzbekistan-Russia relations under the framework of a comprehensive strategic partnership and alliance.

The talks focused particularly on economic cooperation, with both sides noting continued growth in bilateral trade and the implementation of joint projects in industry, energy and metallurgy. The leaders also discussed expanding regional cooperation and strengthening business ties between different regions of the two countries.

Putin said relations between Russia and Uzbekistan were developing dynamically and noted that Russia remained one of the key investors in Uzbekistan’s economy.

“Relations between our countries have been developing in the best possible way in recent years. Trade turnover is growing, and major projects are being implemented,” Putin said.

Mirziyoyev congratulated the Russian side on the 81st anniversary of Victory and underlined the importance of preserving historical memory. He also highlighted the growth in trade turnover and the active expansion of economic ties.

“In fact, our bilateral relations are developing very dynamically. In the first quarter, trade turnover growth amounted to 33 percent,” Mirziyoyev said.

The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues as well as cultural and humanitarian cooperation.
