KUWAIT CITY, Saturday, February 28, 2026 (WNP): Kuwait International Airport was struck by an Iranian-linked drone on Saturday as part of a series of retaliatory attacks across the Gulf following heightened regional hostilities, authorities said.

The country’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation reported that a drone impacted the airport, resulting in minor injuries to several airport employees and limited material damage to Terminal 1. Emergency procedures were activated immediately, and security forces secured the site while ongoing assessment and recovery operations continued.

Spokesperson Abdullah Al-Rajhi said the airport remained under the control of competent state authorities and safety of passengers and staff was being prioritised, with flight operations reorganised to maintain high safety standards.

Kuwait’s cabinet strongly condemned the attack, calling it a “flagrant violation of Kuwait’s sovereignty, airspace, international law and the UN Charter.” The government reaffirmed its solidarity with other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states that have faced similar attacks in recent hours.

The strike at the civilian aviation hub comes amid a broader wave of Iranian missile and drone actions targeting Gulf nations hosting United States military assets, following joint U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iranian territory on Saturday morning. Multiple GCC countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait, have reported airspace closures and heightened military alerts as the situation rapidly evolves.

Initial reports indicated that the airport strike did not result in runway destruction or extended closure of all operations, but the incident adds to widespread disruption of regional aviation, with multiple carriers suspending or rerouting flights due to security risks.

Kuwait authorities said they would provide further updates through official channels as more information becomes available.
