RAWALPINDI, Monday, July 27, 2026 (WNP): A bipartisan delegation of the United States House of Representatives on Monday called on Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi to discuss regional security, defence cooperation, and opportunities for expanding bilateral economic engagement.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the US delegation comprised Congressman Ryan Keith Zinke of Montana and Congressman Michael James of Washington.

The meeting focused on matters of mutual interest, the evolving regional security environment, bilateral defence cooperation, and avenues for strengthening economic collaboration and shared prosperity between Pakistan and the United States.

During the discussions, Field Marshal Asim Munir highlighted Pakistan’s significant economic potential, emphasizing that sustainable regional stability is closely linked to economic growth, expanded trade, and enhanced regional connectivity.

He also outlined Pakistan’s ongoing structural reforms aimed at creating a more business-friendly environment, improving investor confidence, and attracting greater foreign investment.

The visiting lawmakers acknowledged Pakistan’s important role in promoting regional stability and strengthening economic resilience. Drawing on the delegation’s professional experience and policy perspectives, both sides explored opportunities for expanding bilateral economic engagement, encouraging private-sector partnerships, and enhancing trade and commercial ties.

The US delegation expressed appreciation for the warm hospitality extended by the Pakistan Army leadership and reaffirmed its commitment to promoting stronger economic, commercial, and institutional relations between the United States and Pakistan.

The meeting reflected the shared interest of both countries in broadening cooperation beyond traditional security matters to include trade, investment, and sustainable economic development as key pillars of the bilateral relationship.
