UK PM Keir Starmer lauds Pakistan’s diplomatic role in US–Iran ceasefire in call with PM Shehbaz Sharif

ISLAMABAD, Friday, April 10, 2026 (WNP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif received a telephone call from Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, on Friday evening during which both leaders discussed regional developments and bilateral relations.

During the conversation, Prime Minister Starmer deeply appreciated Pakistan’s “effective diplomatic efforts” in facilitating the US–Iran ceasefire and the resumption of dialogue. He felicitated Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on hosting the peace-related discussions in Islamabad and extended his best wishes for the success of the ongoing diplomatic initiative.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and stability, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the joint statement issued by key European and international leaders, including Prime Minister Starmer, endorsing Pakistan’s peace efforts and diplomatic role.

Both leaders stressed the importance of ensuring that the ceasefire remains intact and that sustained engagement continues to create conditions for durable peace and stability in the region.

They also agreed to further energize the longstanding friendly relations between Pakistan and the United Kingdom across all areas of mutual interest.

The Prime Minister reiterated his cordial invitation to Prime Minister Starmer to undertake an official visit to Pakistan at a mutually convenient time.
