ISLAMABAD, Sunday, July 5, 2026 (WNP): The United States Embassy in Islamabad and the U.S. Consulate General in Lahore commemorated the 250th anniversary of American Independence with landmark illuminations at some of Pakistan’s most iconic national monuments, symbolizing the enduring partnership and shared democratic values between Pakistan and the United States.

As part of the year-long global Freedom 250 campaign marking the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Embassy illuminated the Pakistan National Monument in Islamabad in the colors of the American flag from July 1 to July 5, while Globe Chowk on Constitution Avenue was also lit in red, white and blue throughout the five-day celebration.

In Lahore, the U.S. Mission coordinated the illumination of the historic Alamgiri Gate and Picture Wall at the Lahore Fort, as well as the Quaid-e-Azam Library and the National Institute of Technology, bringing the Freedom 250 celebrations to one of Pakistan’s foremost cultural capitals.

The U.S. Mission expressed its appreciation to the Government of Pakistan for supporting the commemorative events, noting that the illuminations were undertaken in coordination with Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Capital Development Authority as a gesture of friendship between the two nations.

U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker described America’s 250th anniversary as “a moment of renewal,” saying it provided an opportunity to strengthen institutions, reaffirm leadership and deepen partnerships founded on mutual respect and reciprocity.

She said the United States and Pakistan were building their relationship on the principles of sovereignty, strength and shared prosperity, translating common interests into tangible outcomes that would promote lasting security and economic opportunity for future generations.

The U.S. Mission said the Freedom 250 campaign offers an opportunity to celebrate the historic milestone alongside friends and partners around the world who have shared in America’s journey since the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.

According to the Mission, the commemorative illuminations reflected the enduring values of freedom, democracy and opportunity that continue to underpin the evolving U.S.-Pakistan relationship, which is increasingly focused on expanding bilateral trade and investment, cooperation in critical minerals, economic development and regional peace.
