LAHORE, Saturday, February 7, 2026 (WNP): Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar on Saturday declared that terrorism would be eradicated from its roots, asserting that neither terrorists nor their facilitators would be spared as the state intensifies efforts to safeguard citizens and places of worship.
Addressing a press conference at Jamia Minhaj-ul-Hussain, the minister strongly condemned the suicide bombing at an Imambargah in Islamabad’s Tarlai area during Friday prayers, describing the attack as a cowardly assault on humanity and religious sanctity. He said the incident had plunged the entire nation into mourning.
“The state is fully determined to protect the lives and property of its citizens and to ensure the safety of all places of worship,” Tarar said, stressing that no individual or group would be allowed to disrupt law and order or incite sectarian hatred.
“Killing innocent people for a few coins is a heinous crime that has no justification in any religion or moral code.”
The minister informed the media that the identity of the suicide bomber had been established and that investigations were continuing. He said forensic teams and security agencies had collected evidence from the site, adding that full details would be shared with the public once investigations were completed.
Tarar said the government stood “shoulder to shoulder” with the families of those killed and injured. On the directions of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, he added, all possible medical facilities were being provided to the injured, while the bereaved families would not be left alone. According to the minister, 170 injured persons are currently receiving treatment.
He said Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, acting on the prime minister’s instructions, had met the Imambargah administration and assured full cooperation. The prime minister, he added, had ordered a complete, transparent investigation and the immediate identification of all those responsible for the attack.
Reiterating the government’s resolve, Tarar said terrorists had no religion or faith and existed only to carry out inhumane acts. “Calling them human is an insult to humanity,” he remarked, adding that Pakistan’s enemies sought to undermine the country’s peace, unity, and development.
Attributing responsibility, the minister claimed that the suicide bomber had received terrorist training in Afghanistan and alleged the involvement of “planted elements” from India and Afghanistan behind the attack. He emphasized that these claims were under investigation and that evidence was being examined by relevant agencies.
Tarar said extremist groups, having lost the capacity to strike hardened targets, were resorting to attacks on soft targets in remote areas.
“Terrorists are breathing their last,” he said, adding that intelligence-based operations were ongoing nationwide and that facilitators of the Tarlai attack had been identified.
He praised the Pakistan Army and security institutions for working around the clock to ensure peace, noting that their professionalism was recognized internationally. He cited what he described as global acknowledgment of Pakistan’s counterterrorism operations, including a recent operation linked to the Jaffar Express incident.
The minister also highlighted the establishment of the Paigham-e-Aman Committee under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, aimed at promoting peace and countering extremist narratives with representation from all schools of thought.
On the occasion, Dr. Muhammad Hussain Akbar, founder and chief patron of Jamia Minhaj-ul-Hussain, condemned the attack, calling it a grave crime against humanity. He said the nation was united against attempts to destabilize Pakistan and demanded that all perpetrators and facilitators be brought to justice through the courts.
Following the press conference, religious scholars from various sects formed a human chain alongside the federal minister, symbolizing unity and collective resolve against terrorism and sectarian violence.
