TEL AVIV, Monday, March 9, 2026 (WNP): Israel’s commercial hub Tel Aviv came under one of the most intense waves of missile strikes since the start of the escalating 2026 Iran–Israel War, with explosions, fires and heavy damage reported across parts of the city following Iranian missile barrages.

According to reports and eyewitness accounts, several missiles struck areas in and around Tel Aviv overnight, triggering air-raid sirens and sending residents rushing into shelters as Israel’s missile-defense systems attempted interceptions. Fires and significant structural damage were reported in multiple locations across the metropolitan area.

Israeli emergency teams were deployed to affected neighborhoods, where rescue workers searched damaged buildings and evacuated injured civilians. Earlier strikes in the conflict had already hit residential areas, killing at least one person and injuring dozens in Tel Aviv during previous barrages.

Israeli officials claim that some of the recent attacks involved missiles equipped with cluster submunitions aimed at major population centers, a tactic they say increases the risk to civilians by dispersing multiple explosives over wide areas.

Images circulating online and in Israeli media showed debris scattered across streets, damaged vehicles and buildings, and smoke rising above parts of the city. In some areas, fragments of missiles reportedly fell across neighborhoods after air-defense interceptions.

The strikes are part of Iran’s retaliatory campaign after joint U.S.–Israeli airstrikes targeted Iranian military and strategic sites, a conflict that has rapidly expanded across the Middle East.

Iranian state media and officials say the attacks are a response to the earlier strikes on Iranian territory and leadership targets. In recent statements, Iranian military officials described the operations as the beginning of a broader retaliation against Israeli and U.S. interests in the region.

Residents in Tel Aviv reported repeated sirens throughout the night as multiple waves of missiles were detected approaching Israel’s central region. Public shelters were opened across the city, and authorities urged civilians to remain near protected areas as additional attacks remained possible.

Tel Aviv—home to Israel’s financial district, major technology firms, and key government facilities—has become one of the central targets in the conflict, highlighting the growing scale of the war.

The ongoing exchanges of missile strikes and air raids have pushed the Middle East toward one of its most dangerous confrontations in decades. Analysts warn that continued attacks on major urban centers such as Tel Aviv and Tehran could further escalate the conflict and draw additional regional actors into the war.

Israeli authorities said damage assessments were still ongoing, while the military warned that more missile launches could occur as the conflict intensifies.
