RIYADH, Thursday, May 28, 2026 (WNP): Under the directives of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, and with the follow-up of Minister of Defense Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has provided urgent support to Yemen through the Saudi Program for Yemen’s Development and Reconstruction (SPYDR).

The support includes petroleum derivatives valued at $150 million aimed at operating electricity generation stations across various Yemeni governorates using diesel and fuel oil.

The assistance comes as part of Saudi Arabia’s longstanding commitment to supporting the Republic of Yemen and standing alongside the Yemeni people in alleviating humanitarian suffering, particularly amid rising temperatures and growing energy demands.

According to the Saudi Program for Yemen’s Development and Reconstruction, the support will contribute to stabilizing electricity services and ensuring their continuity, while supporting vital sectors linked to electrical energy and enhancing development and stability across Yemen.

The latest grant extends the Kingdom’s ongoing assistance through petroleum derivative support for more than 70 power stations in several Yemeni governorates.

Saudi Arabia previously provided fuel grants worth $180 million in 2018, $422 million in 2021, $200 million in 2022 and $81.2 million in 2026 to help sustain electricity generation and improve public services in Yemen.

The program said these grants have played a major role in stabilizing Yemen’s energy sector and ensuring the continued operation of essential service and government facilities, contributing to improved institutional performance, stimulating economic activity and enhancing daily life for citizens.

The petroleum support has also positively impacted the operation of power plants and strengthened the reliability of electricity services in hospitals, medical centers, schools, roads, airports, ports and both government and private facilities.

In addition, the grants have supported industrial activities and boosted commercial movement in different parts of Yemen.

The Saudi Program for Yemen’s Development and Reconstruction has also implemented several development projects to enhance electricity generation capacity and improve the reliability of the electrical grid.

These projects include the establishment of power generation stations, the supply of modern electrical generators and related equipment, as well as the upgrading of existing generators, which have contributed to increasing electricity production and improving services in beneficiary areas.

The program’s projects and initiatives have further helped raise electricity production capacity in several Yemeni governorates, while strengthening the Yemeni government’s ability to provide essential educational, health and public services.

The initiatives have additionally supported the use of renewable energy within a number of development projects.

The Saudi Program for Yemen’s Development and Reconstruction has so far implemented 287 development projects and initiatives across eight vital sectors, including education, health, energy, water, transportation, agriculture, fisheries and institutional capacity building, contributing to sustainable development and improving living conditions throughout Yemen.
