New initiative to boost trade, investment, and energy collaboration between the two brotherly nations

RIYADH, Tuesday, October 28, 2025 (WNP): The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Pakistan have agreed to launch a comprehensive Economic Cooperation Framework for strengthening bilateral trade, investment, and development ties, marking a new chapter in their nearly eight-decade-long partnership.

The announcement came following a high-level meeting between Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, held in Riyadh on Monday, October 27, 2025.

The new framework underscores the two nations’ shared economic vision and commitment to transforming their deep-rooted fraternal relations into tangible partnerships that contribute to regional prosperity and global competitiveness.

According to a joint statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the framework will serve as a foundation for a series of strategic and high-impact projects spanning the fields of economy, trade, investment, and development. These initiatives aim to strengthen cooperation between the two governments, enhance the role of the private sector, and expand bilateral trade.

Both countries have identified key sectors for collaboration, including energy, industry, mining, information technology, tourism, agriculture, and food security. Discussions are underway on several joint ventures, including the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on an electricity interconnection project between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, as well as another MoU to boost cooperation in the energy sector.

The joint statement emphasized that the Economic Cooperation Framework represents an extension of the two nations’ shared efforts to establish a long-term, sustainable partnership that aligns with the aspirations of their leaderships and peoples.

It also reaffirmed both governments’ mutual desire to translate their strategic relationship into actionable outcomes that promote economic growth, stability, and prosperity in the region.

Both leaders expressed optimism for the upcoming meeting of the Saudi-Pakistani Supreme Coordination Council, which is expected to further advance the implementation of the new framework and oversee key bilateral initiatives.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia concluded the statement by reaffirming the Kingdom’s commitment to fostering stronger cooperation with Pakistan—its historic and trusted ally—anchored in the principles of brotherhood, mutual respect, and shared development goals.
