Russia’s cultural heritage showcased at NUST through ‘Beauty of the Russian Word’ Festival

Three-day festival introduces students to Russian language, history and culture, with lectures, workshops and cultural activities strengthening Pakistan-Russia people-to-people ties

ISLAMABAD, Wednesday, September 16, 2026 (WNP): The National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) hosted the three-day “Beauty of the Russian Word” Festival from September 14 to 16, providing students with an opportunity to explore the Russian language, history and cultural heritage through a range of educational and cultural activities.

Welcome remarks were delivered by Dr. Seemab Latif, Principal and Dean of the NUST School of Interdisciplinary Engineering and Sciences; Dr. Hassan Jalil Shah, Principal of NUST Jinnah School of Public Policy and Leadership (JSPPL); Dr. Geayesha Bhatti, Assistant Professor at JSPPL; Dr. Roman Porozov, Assistant Professor at Ural State Pedagogical University (USPU); and Gleb Shubin, Cultural Attaché of the Embassy of Russia in Pakistan.

The speakers highlighted the importance of learning the Russian language and gaining knowledge of Russia’s rich cultural heritage in further strengthening Pakistan-Russia humanitarian ties and expanding people-to-people contacts between the two countries.

As part of the festival, USPU professors Roman Porozov and Alexander Dolgov delivered a lecture titled “History of the Russian Language: From Slavic Roots to Present Day.”

They also conducted a series of workshops covering topics including “Russian Folk Ornament: Learning Artistic Decoration,” “Russian Tongue Twisters” and “Russian Song,” among other cultural and educational activities.

The programme enabled NUST students to broaden their knowledge of the Russian language and culture while gaining deeper insight into the history and civilisation of Russia.

The festival was organized by the Russian Foundation for Humanities Support “My History” and Ural State Pedagogical University, with the support of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation and the Embassy of Russia in Pakistan.

The event underscored the growing role of educational and cultural exchanges in strengthening humanitarian cooperation and building stronger institutional and people-to-people links between Pakistan and Russia.
