Tashkent expresses full solidarity with Saudi Arabia, calls for restraint, respect for international law and protection of holy sites and civilians

TASHKENT, Thursday, September 17, 2026 (WNP): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan has strongly condemned an attempted attack involving an unmanned aerial vehicle directed towards the holy city of Makkah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

In a statement, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry expressed full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, stressing that any actions posing a threat to holy sites, civilians or civilian infrastructure are unacceptable.

Uzbekistan called on all sides to exercise maximum restraint and strictly comply with the norms and principles of international law.

The ministry also emphasised the importance of respecting the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of states, amid continuing tensions in the region.

Uzbekistan further voiced support for diplomatic and other efforts aimed at reducing tensions, preventing the further spread of conflict, and ensuring peace, security and stability in the region.

The statement underscores Uzbekistan’s position that holy sites and civilian populations must be protected and that regional disputes should not escalate in ways that threaten religious sanctities, civilian lives or regional stability.
