DOHA, Saturday, May 2, 2026 (WNP): Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, on Saturday received a phone call from Abbas Araghchi, during which the two leaders discussed ongoing negotiations and regional developments.

During the conversation, the Iranian Foreign Minister briefed his Qatari counterpart on the progress and latest developments in the ongoing negotiations, highlighting the current diplomatic momentum.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman reaffirmed Qatar’s full support for mediation efforts aimed at resolving the crisis through peaceful means, stressing the importance of constructive engagement by all parties to create conducive conditions for progress and to prevent further escalation.

He underscored that freedom of navigation remains a fundamental principle that must not be compromised, warning that any attempt to close or use the Strait of Hormuz as a pressure tactic would exacerbate tensions and pose serious risks to regional stability.

The Prime Minister cautioned that such actions could have far-reaching consequences, including disruptions to global energy and food supplies, as well as instability in international markets and supply chains.

Reaffirming Qatar’s commitment to international norms, he emphasized the need for adherence to international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter, while prioritizing the collective interests of the region and its people.

The discussion concluded with a shared emphasis on de-escalation, dialogue, and sustained diplomatic efforts to enhance regional and global security and stability.
